Almost finished

So one week into our sewing and this is our last garment for our range, and then its our couture gown.  This week im making a faded pair of denim jeans and a ghost voile top.  The jeans I want white to suit my range, three bottles of bleach, and its still not white! but im getting there.  Knowing its so close to the end, really is exciting but also a bit scary.  I cant wait to get a degree from FEDISA, but im not exactly sure what happens next, because I'm defiantly not ready to be working yet.  One thing I know is im going overseas next year and I'm already excited. Another exciting thing is the fact we making a couture gown, I really want to come up with something very unique.  Wish me luck! And just another phrase to go buy for the week.

Fashions Fade, Style is Eternal.

last week of visuals

So this was our last official week of visuals at fedisa! how sad! I cant believe we almost done...but the time spent at fedisa was amazing! today we have an early deadline, so Im going to have a full day to get all my things in on time..In this week we had to hand in a page for a cookbook and the key element was that your model had to have some sort of food on her..So I made a pasta neckpiece, as you can see in the photo..
So just another cute quote to go by for the week..

"The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years."

What a beautiful week

So our second week of sewing has passed, and my outfit is almost done, just a bit more of hand sewing and my outfit will be finished.  Seeing as I have only 4 more weeks to go, all my effort is going to go into work, so that i can be proud of what I have achieved in my three years at Fedisa.  Im almost a true graduate, I cant wait to tell someone I have an actual degree.  And then overseas for me.  So one more outfit to go, a week of visuals and then my couture gown! I really cant wait to start my next outfit.  My time here at Fedisa has really been amazing, and the best thing I could ever have done.
I thought this quote by Coco Chanel sums me up perfectly, and maybe it does for you to.  Have an amazing week.

"Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance."

6th Garment

So we into a new week of sewing.  And starting our 6th garment, the one I am making is inspired by the cobblestone walkway that is part of my theme.  It is a off pink knit, over batting, and I have top stitched over to create a block effect like cobble stones.  The top is going to contrast the skirt as it is going to be made of chiffon and be a lot lighter and airy.  Seeing as we already in August we have only 2 more months to go, and I will have my degree, I'm so excited already! and then I'm off to work on the yachts in America, to just travel and see the world, and then I will come home, and be ready for the real world.  So by next week this time, I will let you know how my garment went.  And just something to inspire you for the week.

Storyboard week! We had to design an outfit for a couple.  So my inspiration was Cinderella and her prince.  The outfits I designed had a very royal theme to it, but with an Asian twist.  I used a lot of cream, caramel and paisley print.  Im trying a whole new style of drawing, where I'm drawing my figures the same style the Walt Disney artists draw, well as I said I'm trying to.  Well Im really busy, so wish me luck!
Another quote to go by for the week.

Nothing is impossible, the word itself says 'I'm possible'!

So we working on our 5th garment now.  Ive made a long plunge neckline dress, with a beaded waistline.  The back is completely open and I am going to put strings of pearls draped onto the back.  For art next week, I have to create a cookbook for Fedisa, I have to have models dressed in food, so I am going to go with a Mediterranean theme, so my model is going to have a dress of pasta on, and the dish on her head.  I have a lot of work ahead of me, but only three more months and I will be officially done.  Would I do it again, most defiantly!

Here's a picture for my inspiration of my range...

Third Garment

So its the second week into our third garments construction, and im liking this one a lot.  Its a pink dress, with lace panels and a cut out back, with little pearl buttons.  Its a full circle skirt, with lots of beading.  I am using moon stones, crystals and fresh water pearls.  And I am really liking it...And to top it all off, this is the last week of this term, then i have a week off, and then its off to Pep to do my internship, cant wait!  So here im off to carry on with the beading...

A week of sewing has gone by and my second dress for my range is in construction.  This dress is made from a nude colour chiffon with a baby pink chiffon draped over.  It then has a beaded pearl and crystal neckline and waist line.  So again its a very soft and French feel to it.  A tight pencil skirt style dress. And now a week of art ahead of me.  We have to design and make two different swing tags for our range.  So that's very exciting, i already know what I want to do.
And a little phrase to go by for the week, by Coco Chanel; Fashion fades, only style remains the same.

So the wedding dress is finished, the bridesmaids dress is finished and the flower girls dress is finished!! what a holiday, not that I can call it that..But they all looked stunning and the wedding was amazing! and all the praises I got made it all worth while.  I dont think I would easily do it again, but a challenge is always good.  As they say all things that are worthwhile do not come easy.  So my first ranges outfit is officialy finished.  A white dress with a fresh water pearl neckline.  The end of year is creeping up very quickly, when I look again my whole range is finished..so far I'm finding it very exciting.  So I've added just a small picture of the bride and the bridesmaid.

And a little quote for the week;
I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls - Audry Hepburn

So the first picyure is my smocking dress I'm wearing and the other three are of the black dress I made for a client.
K*
So this weekend I worked on a dress for a client, a wet look black dress with a very low back and diamante buckles.  Very pretty I must say...I will put a picture up now now.  Today I've been busy on my 6 samples that have to be in Friday.  These 6 samples have to all be refabricated in some way, and we must use at least one of them in our third year range.  I'm doing dip dye, tye dye, pintucks, smocking, coffee dying and beading.  I'm using at least three of them in my range.  The pintucks I'm doing will have top stitching running over them in parallel lines going in opposite directions to create the look of waves.  Most of my designs consist of beading in some way, especially the neck lines of the dresses, I love little pearls and glass beads.  Smocking is also one of my favourite techniques to make a simple dress.  I'm actually wearing one of my smocking dresses now while I write this, I will also put a picture up now now .  Smocking is so simple, you take a piece of rectangle fabric, and with the grain you will start smocking horizontal lines across the fabric.  You will do this to about the waist line, and I will then round the dress off by doing a french seam, this will also secure the smocking ends.  And there you have a simple boobtube dress.  So now go try it out yourself!

So for tommorrow I have to have had 70 designs, front and back, drawn, leading to my range.  And what a process, somedays I felt as if I cant stop, but I'm done and Im really happy with some of them.  But wow, Im really feeling 3rd year now, the work doesn't end.  I feel a bit overwhelmed by it all, but I'm doing what I love so why complain..a little inspiration for the week is a picture I found that suits the colour scheme of my 3rd year range.

Another week of pleasure

What an amazing day today, just got back from the beach, koegel bay.  Stunning weather and friends.  The sun and beach make me feel like a new person, and I can carry on with another busy week at Fedisa.  We making a pencil skirt tomorrow, with a vent.  On friday I went to the Design Indaba at the CTICC, a highlight of the year, I really love it.  And I found a new designer that I have fallen in love with!! She's a jewellery designer, and the range is called "Papillon Belle".  Its a range of butterfly pendants, encased in a thin layer of glass and rimmed off in silver.  She uses real butterfly wings, from dead butterflies that come from Madagascar.  They are amazing, and they stay as beautiful as they are the day you buy it.  The real beauty about it is the fact that the wing is different from the bottom to the top of the wing.

So just a little something to keep you wanting it as much as I do!!

Art week just passed, we busy finalising our 3rd year range designs, im so excited, being able to make what we like, but now when I have the chance, I'm not sure what I actualy want to do.  But I will get back to you on that.  So during the December holidays I had a little market day for all my designs I had made the holiday.  It was mostly swimming costumes and dresses, but I loved everything.  And actualy as I'm sitting here Im wearing one of the dresses, a little white triangle shaped dress, with a delicate black lace hem.  Im adding a few of the photos of the day, I even baked cupcakes and had some champagne, to make a day of it. Often people ask me what I do and if I study? and I say I study fashion at Fedisa, and I feel proud to say it, because firstly not many people know about it, and Its an amazing place to be.  To wake up every morning knowing I'm going to learn something new in a practical field makes every day a great day.  I've been at University before and I dreaded sitting in the classes listening to people talk, but now I know what I'm doing and I wouldn't do anything else.  I am defiantly in the right place and loving it at Fedisa.

Birthday week

It was my birthday on Friday yet another year older, but what an amazing end to a hectic week.  We just finished a tailored jacket, mine was of a light tan colour, with shell buttons.  I will put up a picture at a later stage.  So as I said it was my birthday Friday, and I celebrated it on signal hill with sundowners and some amazing friends.  And of course with birthdays, come the gifts.  And something that was very inspirational was actualy a gift bag that had a cute quote on from the stunning designer Coco Chanel, and she said "In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different".  I do think this is a quote to go by.  And its my inspiration for the week, to just be unique.

my life in fashion

Studying has never been a question in my life, I knew from the start what I wanted to do.
And that is now what I do. Im doing my degree in fashion at Fedisa.
Firstly anyone who says anything to do with fashion is easy, is a liar, it is a hard industry to be in, competitive in all ways possible.  Just looking at the others in my class, the work they create is amazing!
So 2 weeks into my 3rd year and i just realised what a year this is going to be...my 3rd year range is coming up, Ive only just finalised my theme for my range, and now I have so many thoughts in my head, from designs to fabric, shoes, styles and even the hat to fit the models head.
My theme is called "faded away", its a mix of beach wear you would wear on a cold stormy day and a 40's French village women.
A lot of tie-dying and pretty dresses are going to be seen in my designs and intricate little details.
But who knows, maybe at the end of the year and you're still reading my blog, it can be a whole new theme...
